About Me

Hello there!

I'm D.U.R.A

I illustrate female figure with intricate details and combined beauty, fashion, patterns and nature.

Being able to express my thoughts & feelings on canvas is such a bliss and I can simply do that with my abstract paintings.

D.U.R.A is an independent designer, contemporary illustrator and abstract artist from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She is currently living and creating her art in Mauritius. Her work varies from contemporary illustration, fashion illustration, abstract paintings and fashionable characters animals, which she called the 'Fashion-na-nimal Darlings ‘. She had a huge interest in art ever since she was a kid; drawing, poetry reading, story-telling, dramas and choir and she believes she had to do something that related to arts when she grows up. She was graduated in Diploma of Interior Architecture in the year 2003 from the University of Technology MARA, Shah Alam, Malaysia. She had experiences as a Corporate Wear Designer for a year and landed a job as a Fashion Graphic Designer for 4 years. Having a design background has given her an advantage to emerge her art and design skills together in producing her pieces. She had left her art for quite some times however her trouble of sleeping at night had led her to start her art again using the creative process as a healing medium, communication, self-expression and personal growth.  As a self-taught artist, she begins to experiment drawings, illustration and abstract paintings using water colour, gouache, graphite, and acrylic as her main medium. She was pretty occupied for the most of her times, with designing during the day and painting at night simply by getting familiar again with drawing, playing with colours and experimenting with new tools. Her 7 years journey, as an artist has been amazing, overwhelming, challenging yet very fun and she treasured every moment of it. It was a slow process and has tested her patience but she really enjoyed the idea of exploring and experimenting her art.

D.U.R.A is represented by New Blood Art, an online art gallery in the UK: http://www.

Artist's Statement:

I consider myself as a multidisciplinary artist. I draw and illustrate female figures combined with nature and intricate patterns and work on abstract paintings which I consider as a therapeutic medium. Seeing the world has been slowly crumbling down, I'd like to believe that life could be more joyous and colourful. I see human body, their expressions, minds and thoughts are a living library filled with lots of stories and those stories are the one that I want to tell. My subject matters always reveal and explore the ying and yang, black and white, love and hatred and they are beauty in them that I embrace in my body of work

When I paint, it's all about being, impulsive, free-form, gestural strokes and organic. The colourful seasons, the light of the day and the moods of the surroundings that flicked my emotions made me want to get my hands dirty with paints, runs the brushes, and gracefully dance the palette knives on the canvas. My paintings and illustrations usually starts with a colour idea, then patterns and then evolve into compositions in which the colours will tell stories.

To me, my art is a journey. It's a way for me to visually explore my emotions, feelings, thoughts, experiences, and ideas. My primary goal is to inspire other people as how others' journeys have inspired me throughout the process of making my art. As an artist I see myself to continuously evolving and exploring my distinctive style.
